Metaphor

Definition : a figure of speech that compare one thing to another thing without using the connecting word

Significance : using a metaphor in a poem, the reader can understand more about the poem that the writer write.

Examples : the earth is melting like an ice cream

Stanza

Definition : a poem that right in a paragraph

Significance : help to understand part by part

Example : Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light

Imagery

Definition : an image that when you read a poem and image it 

Significance : an image that reader visualize when they read the poem

Example : Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white;
Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;
Nor winks the gold fin in the porphyry font:
The firefly wakens: waken thou with me.
Now droops the milk-white peacock like a ghost,
And like a ghost she glimmers on to me.
Now lies the Earth all Danaƫ to the stars,
And all thy heart lies open unto me.
Now slides the silent meteor on, and leaves
A shining furrow, as thy thoughts in me.
Now folds the lily all her sweetness up,
And slips into the bosom of the lake
So fold thyself, my dearest, thou, and slip
Into my bosom and be lost in me.

Poetry

Definition : a type of literature that use words to express your feeling

Significance : they could write the poetry to express your feeling

Example : They journeyed,
When the darkness of night
Had let down her curtain;
And I said to her:
"Pity a passionate lover,
Outcast and distraught,
Whom desires eagerly encompass,
And at whom
Speeding arrows are aimed
Wheresoever he bends his course."
